Coaching Staff

Cascade Run Club is proud to have a well experienced coaching staff who have performed at the highest levels within our sport. However, when it comes down to it, we're all runners - just like you. We know what it's like to have running be not just a part of your life, but also a part of your personal identity. For all of our coaches, Cascade Run Club has become a venue to share their passion for the sport with others. Whether you're a runner or someone who runs we can't wait to work towards your goals with you as a part of a dynamic team so you feel confident on race day.

Yon Yilma

Yon founded Cascade Run Club in order to share his passion for running and the life changing experiences running with team can bring with others. He sees running as a way to help anyone and everyone achieve goals and, just as importantly, build life long friendships. Yon was recognized for his talents by Cascade Run Club coach, Shelby Schenck, during his junior year of high school and the two have worked together closely ever since. Yon  graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage with a BA in Marketing and Management in 2013 and also found time to run for UAA's XC and Track and Field team, becoming an All-American in both sports. After graduating, he won his debut marathon at the Seattle Rock n Roll Marathon in June 2013. Currently, he is focused on training to make a USA World or Olympic team in the Marathon.

Regina Joyce

Regina brings a special perspective to coaching because she knows what it takes to compete at the highest level. As a former competitive runner for Ireland, she competed in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, finishing 23rd in the first Women's Olympic Marathon. She also placed 7th in the marathon at the 1983 World Championships and has a personal best of 2:32.56. Before turning pro, Regina competed for the University of Washington, where she set school records in every event from 1500m to 10km. Previously, Regina has coached for Edmonds-Woodway and Lynnwood High School and was instrumental in Yon's high school success. Now that she has returned to Seattle, she is excited to resume coaching as a part of Cascade Run Club.

Tansey Lystad

Running has been a part of Tansey's life for a long time - she's been running competitively since junior high. She recently made her Team USA debut at the NACAC Cross Country Championships in March 2017. During her collegiate career at the University of Portland she was a two-time All American in Cross Country and the 5k, as well as a school record holder in multiple events. After graduating with a degree in Biology and a minor in Psychology in 2015, Tansey began a Master's Program at Boise State and will be graduating with her Master's Degree in Athletic Leadership in May 2017 with the hope of becoming a coach in the future. Tansey is excited to continue her post-collegiate training and is focused on training to make a USA World or Olympic team in the future!
